For a bit of adventure, just cross the
“Gulf” stream by air and land at the South Bimini
Airport or cruise over to the Bahamas in your
private boat! Bimini, Bahamas, only 42 miles east of
Miami, is just a short hop. If you go by boat you may get
lucky and catch your own supper. How about an awesome
Dolphin … Mahi Mahi almondine is a real treat or maybe or
maybe a delicious conch! Conch don’t move too
fast…..in fact, they barely move at all, but they sure
are tasty.
Some of the most fun you can have with your
clothes is to plan an adventure in the Bahamas with your
friends. You will find some of the best fishing in the
world located right in Bimini. If you want your Bahamas
vacation to include catching some world class tuna you
don't have to go any further than the Bimini's. Ernest
Hemingway fished these waters and made big game fishing a
glamorous sporting activity in this area. It still brings
in fisherman from all over the world. The Compleat
Angler, housing the Hemingway Museum, burned down a few
years ago, but the fishing tales and memories live
on!
What about putting your head underwater? The
Bimini has many dive or snorkel options; like the many
Spanish galleon wrecks, black coral or stone formations
... and what about the road to the lost continent of
Atlantis?
Moray Alley, Hawksbill Reef, Rainbow Reef
and Victory Reef offer terrific dives from 25 to 80 feet.
For the really advanced diver, there is always the
Nodules. This wall dive that starts at 70 feet then drops
into the Gulf Stream …
For shallow water dives there is the 15 foot
Turtle wreck and the really neat 18 foot Sapona dive.
Also known as the concrete ship, the Sapona is a 270 foot
ship built by Henry Ford in 1911. She served as a troop
transport for just one trip during World War 1. After the
war, the Sapona was used by rumrunners between the
Bahamas and Florida during Prohibition. Some say that she
was even anchored and turned into a private gambling and
drinking club! In late 1929, a hurricane drove the Sapona
aground between South Bimini and Cat Cay, where she
remains today ... partially submerged and home to all
sorts of native marine life.
Snorkelers will love Turtle Rocks, a shallow
wall dive allowing them to view tropical fish just a few
feet away in the nooks and crannies of a gnarly rock
wall. Just like swimming in a giant aquarium.
Maybe you prefer walking the paths of the
Bimini Sands Nature Trail ... learn all
about the wildlife indeginous to this special
place.
After a long day of fishing, diving or
relaxing in the Bahamas sun, it is time to get serious
about kicking back. Now the fun begins! Open up an icy
cold bottle of Kalik….that’s the local beer
brewed in the Bahamas over in Nassau and is excellent
with a squeeze of lime. It is great just to sit back with
a cold Kalik, pop a tasty conch fritter in your mouth,
tell stories about all the fish that got away and listen
to some tropical tunes.
When you decide to finally go on that
Bahamas vacation, you will have all sorts of wonderful
adventures like this … this is what vacationing in the
Bahamas is all about …. stepping outside the “box” …
doing things that are different and having the time of
your life!
Bimini Bahamas isn’t all that far away from
the USA, but in terms of lifestyle …. AHHHH!

vacations right here.
